Comparison of Solar Radiation to Air Temperature

During winter months, the solar radiation (as measured at Fermilab) is only about a third of that around the summer solstice (late June). Variation in the degree of cloud cover creates the scatter in the solar radiation data. Notice how the temperature data correspond to the solar radiation data with a slight delay in the response of temperature to changes in solar radiation. This graph was generated using the Fermilab Met Station’s 1999 data.
